Glossary of Techniques & General pricing
AquaCranial® $200 – the session is 1.5 to 2 hours – AquaCranial® Therapy is a gentle bodywork that combines the healing qualities of ocean water (you’re floated in the ocean) and CranioSacral Therapy®. This modality was developed in conjunction with cetacean research by Rebecca Goff, OTR of Maui. She has taken the osteopathic principles of craniosacral mobilization from the treatment table into the aquatic environment, creating an approach, for people of all ages, that is profoundly relaxing. AquaCranial® Therapy is a new modality. It takes years to establish research, proving effectiveness. Since AquaCranial® Therapy is based on and an extention of CranioSacral Therapy, it follows that benefits of both would be similar. AquaCranial® Therapy effects the craniosacral system which consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain. It extends down from the bones of the skull, face and mouth, which make up the cranium, to the sacrum (tailbone area). This is a vital system that influences the development and performance of the brain and spinal cord. Restrictions or imbalances caused by birth, childhood injuries, sports, stress, illness, repetitive movements or medications to name a few, could potentially cause any number of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities. Your AquaCranial® Therapist uses light touch as a method of detection and correction to encourage your own healing mechanism thru the craniosacral system to release the effect of stresses from your nervous system. By strengthening the body’s ability to take care of itself a wide range of illness, pain and dysfunction can be alleviated. These include chronic neck and back pain, headaches, chronic fatigue, scoliosis, emotional difficulties, learning disabilities, TMJ syndrome, post traumatic stress disorder, sleep apnea, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, motor coordination impairments, central nervous system disorders and more. Benefits include resistance to disease, better health in general and a looser, more relaxed body.
Cranio-Sacral* $95 hr (suggested 1 1/2hr session) – is a technique for finding and correcting cerebral and spinal imbalances or blockages that may cause sensory, motor or intellectual dysfunction.
**CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:~ Migraine Headaches~ Chronic Neck and Back Pain~ Motor-Coordination Impairments~ Colic ~ Autism~ Central Nervous System Disorders~ Orthopedic Problems~ Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries~ Scoliosis~ Infantile Disorders~ Learning Disabilities~ Chronic Fatigue~ Emotional Difficulties~ Stress and Tension-Related Problems~ Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders~ Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)~ Neurovascular or Immune Disorders~ Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder~ Post-Surgical Dysfunction
Deep Tissue – additional $10 hr. fee for extensive DT – releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. It is called deep tissue, because it also focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. We suggest 15 minutes in the Steam, Jacuzzi or Sauna (available only at the Kaua’i Athletic Club office) before your session.
Hawaiian Lomilomi $95 hr. – is also called “Loving Hands” massage and works gently yet deeply into the muscles using rhythmic kneading and continuous, flowing strokes, totally nurturing the body enabling the recipient to relax, give in and simply be. While technique is an important part of the massage and associated healing, much of the work is done by love, with the total focus of the practitioner on the client being deep and complete with total respect and love. As “Aunty” Margaret always said first, “it’s a Praying work”.
Hot Stone Massage $115 hr. (suggested 1 1/2 hr session) – a full body stone layout; and heated stones are massaged over your entire body. A deeply relaxing experience.
Myofascial Release $95 hr. – is a form of bodywork that is manipulative in nature and seeks to rebalance the body by releasing tension in the fascia, the tissue structure which lines and covers nearly everything inside and around our bodies. Long, stretching strokes are utilized to release muscular tension and holding patterns. This technique helps unwind our bodies from traumas and pains built up over the years and greatly improves range of motion. The effect is long-lasting.
Reflexology* not priced per hour, blended into session - massage based around a system of points in the hands and feet thought to correspond, or “reflex,” to all areas of the body.
Soundwork, not priced per hour, blended into session – Sound is being re-discovered as an extremely powerful tool for personal growth and transformation. This medium is being successfully used to induce a state of physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Sound, in the form of chant, tone, music, and nature sounds is being re-discovered in the healthcare arena for the enhancement of health, vitality, hospice/pallative care, numerous psychological and behavioral conditions, and stress reduction; the nervous system entrains to and re-aligns with the intervals created by these instruments and tuning forks as well. Sound vibration directly aligns all energy fields, and using our own voice is a powerful and potent form of doing so.
Sports Massage $95 hr. - massage therapy focusing on muscle systems relevant to a particular sport and specific to Pre-event, Post-event or Training Period .
Swedish Massage* $95 hr. – a system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints.
Therapeutic Massage $95 hr. (suggest scheduling a 1 ¼ or 1 ½ hour session) – therapeutic sessions take longer because of the techniques used which involve holding certain points on your muscles and connective tissue until your body releases; the time this takes depends on your body tissue yet it’s always longer than the Relaxation massage. Also, the Deeper Tissue technique incorporated in Therapeutic sessions involves much slower movements so your muscles can ‘receive’ the pressure rather than ‘resist’ it. This all equates to a longer session in order to give you a full body massage.
Trigger Point Therapy(also known as Myotherapy or Neuromuscular Therapy)* not priced per hour, blended into session – applies concentrated finger pressure to “trigger points” (painful irritated areas in muscles) to break cycles of spasm and pain.
